About
the name Lochinvar
The name Lochinvar
is from a character in the epic poem "Marmion" by Sir Walter Scott.
Lochinvar is a knight whose beloved is betrothed to another during
his absence. He rides up to her wedding ceremony, asks her father
for a last dance with her, and then scoops her up and rides off
never to be seen again. Very romantic, needless to say, but what
does it have to do with financial planning?
Mr. Maselunas
began using the name Lochinvar at the height of the LBO craze back
in the late 1980's. He was a member of a group putting together
a "white squire" fund to rescue companies who were takeover targets
from the clutches of unwanted suitors. The metaphor seemed perfect.
More recently, in forming this financial planning practice, the
name was revived, since once again the concept of rescue from an
undesirable future seemed apropos.
